Thai Airways to compensate Suvarnabhumi for plane’s runway damage
Saturday, July 28th, 2007Thai Airways International (THAI) has agreed to compensate Suvarnabhumi airport for damage caused to a runway by one of its aircraft earlier this month, Suvarnabhumi airport director Serirat Prasutatnont said yesterday. The aircraft in question, an Airbus A300-600 which arrived from Phuket, caused the damage when it momentarily slid off the runway at Suvarnabhumi airport during heavy rain at around 5.30pm on July 7. But the pilot never reported the incident, Mr Serirat said.
Burmese carrier launches flights to new Bangkok Airport
Friday, May 18th, 2007Air Bagan, the first privately owned carrier in military-ruled Burma, has started daily flights between Rangoon and Bangkok, its first international route heralding an ambitious overseas expansion. The airline, which was launched in November 2004 as a domestic carrier, is also preparing to start daily flights from its Rangoon hub to Singapore in September, and a Rangoon-Mandalay-Kunming route in August, twice weekly.
They will be followed by the launch in October of regular flights to Siem Reap in Cambodia as well as chartered flights to Incheon and Osaka, according to chairman Yay Za, a Burmese tycoon who built his diverse business empire from timber exports.
Thai Airways loses customers after moving back to Don Muang airport
Saturday, April 28th, 2007Thai Airways International’s decision to move a large part of its domestic services to the old Don Muang airport has resulted in a loss of tens of thousands of passengers who require connecting flights.
The flag carrier could have lost as many as 70,000 foreign travellers, who were transferring from international flights to domestic destinations or travelling from domestic routes to overseas, since Thai Airways started operating through the 93-year-old airport on March 25, 2007.
These travellers have turned to other carriers due to the hassle and long wait in connecting with international flights - all of which run through Suvarnabhumi Airport, a time-consuming 27 km away.
