Suvarnabhumi to build a low-cost passenger terminal costing 1.2 billion Baht
Thursday, October 5th, 2006Airports of Thailand (AOT) will today seek approval from its board of directors to build a low-cost passenger terminal costing Bt1.2 billion at Suvarnabhumi Airport.
AOT president Chotisak Asapaviriya said the planned facilities would have a total space of 40,000 square metres, with an annual capacity to serve 17 million passengers. It will be especially designed for budget airlines and travellers, with the emphasis on reducing operating and other costs.
“Cost-efficiency is the top priority, because it will not be as beautiful and cosy as the existing terminal. However, service at the new low-cost hub will be fast and convenient.”
Suvarnabhumi Airport boosts investment
Monday, September 11th, 2006The opening of the Suvarnabhumi Airport for commercial services late this month will boost a continued investment, particularly in the eastern region where the airport is located, according to the Stock Exchange of Thailand.
SET President Patareeya Benjapolchai said on Sunday the official inauguration of the airport on September 28 would lead to further investment in local industrial estates, trade and other businesses, which could contribute to the country’s economic growth in the long run.
She said she supported state investment in expanding areas of the new airport to accommodate an expected increase in trade and investment in the future since Don Muang International Airport is currently crowded.
