Suvarnabhumi » Expected more foreign arrivals at Suvarnabhumi Airport
Wednesday, October 17th, 2007
Airports of Thailand’s President Chotisak Asapaviriya on Sunday voiced confidence more foreign tourists would visit Thailand at end of this year since 10 more airliners expressed intention to land at the Suvarnabhumi Airport.
He said the official inauguration of the airport on September 28 is a proper decision because the Bangkok International Airport at Don Muang could not accommodate the increased number of passengers.
Also, should the Suvarnabhumi Airport open in November or December, the transfer would be more difficult since it is a high season period.
By the end of this year, he projected the number of foreign tourists would increase since the company had been informed by around 10 more airliners of their intention to land at the new airport.
At the same time, he said, the company had been praised by many airlines that services at the airport are gradually put in place and improve. On news reports of cargo transfer problems, Mr. Chotisak denied a lot of cargoes are left in terminals at present. He conceded many cargoes were shipped to the airport’s terminals on Saturday because AOT had waived cargo fees for two months. (TNA)
