Thai Airways on Thursday inked an accord with major UN agencies providing for special fares and considerations for international agencies, while American Express will serve as the sole travel agent dealing with the UN in Thailand.
A Memorandum of Understanding on a THAI Corporate Partnership Programme was signed Friday by United Nations agencies in Thailand, Thai Airways International Pcl, and American Express (Thai) Co., Ltd Thursday at the Headquarters of Thai Airways International in Bangkok.
The ceremony was witnessed by Kim Hak-Su, UN Under Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), Flying Officer Apinan Sumanaseni, President of Thai Airways; and American Express.
Under the tripartite agreement, UN agencies here agree to consider THAI as an ‘established carrier’ for international and domestic travel in line with the UN procedures. THAI will provide special fares
exclusively for the UN staff members travelling.
The agreement also recognises American Express (Thai) Co., Ltd. as the only UN Travel Agent,” said Peter Van Laere who heads ESCAP’s Administrative Services Division.
“The United Nations is excited about this innovative approach to building a win-win partnership between the United Nations and the business community. We believe that the extensive regional network of Thai Airways as well as some of its attractive routes, such as the non-stop express flight between Bangkok and New York, will allow us to capitalise on this Agreement, thus increasing the use of Thai Airways”, said Kim Hak-Su, ESCAP’s Executive Secretary, who added that the accord is a major step in helping the UN to reduce its administrative and overhead costs.
