An aircraft mechanic is responsible for the upkeep, inspection and repair of airplanes and helicopters. This includes both commercial and private aircraft.
Mechanics may learn aircraft repair and maintenance through on-the-job training or through classroom instructions.
Eventually, for many maintainers, the goal is to become FAA A&P certified. Aircraft mechanic certification proves to employers that learner are certified in the necessary skills to work on the airframe and or Powerplant of an aircraft.
Aviation maintenance certification is not easy and many choose to learn in a classroom environment before taking the required FAA tests.
