The board of directors of Airports of Thailand has resigned, less than one month after it opened Bangkok’s new Suvarnabhumi international airport, the company said in a statement yesterday.
AOT said in a statement that all of its 14 board members had resigned effective October 18, citing the current changes in the country’s top leadership.
“It is good manners for the board to resign after these political changes, to pave way for the new leaders to appoint a new set of people to work with,” said Chaisak Angkasuwan, the head of the government’s aviation department who is also an AOT board member. A new board will be appointed within one month, he added.
The $3 billion Suvarnabhumi airport officially opened on September 28, replacing the old Don Muang airport.
