Bangkok Airways senior officials said Suvarnabhumi Airport will help airlines dramatically reduce fuel costs due to less air traffic congestion compared to Bangkok International Airport (Don Muang).

“At Suvarnabhumi, we can save about 400,000 to 500,000 baht a day on fuel expenses,” said Puthipong Prasartthong-osot, vice president of operations at Bangkok Airways.

Suvarnabhumi’s two parallel runways can accommodate simultaneous departures and arrivals, a convenience for airlines.

“A captain will not have to wait as long in the air before receiving final landing permission,” said Puthipong, which means planes will burn less fuel.

The simultaneous take-offs also means that flights will spend less time taxing and waiting to depart.

Bangkok Airways CEO Prasert Prasartthong-osot also suggested on Friday that a number of signs in Mandarin be erected at Suvarnabhumi Airport, “because [Chinese] businessmen and tourists are among the largest groups traveling to Thailand.” (TNA)
