Suvarnabhumi » Passengers on first commercial flights satisfied with Suvarnabhumi Airport
Tuesday, September 4th, 2007“I am so excited to be a part of this historical flight,” said Miki Hiraoka, a Japanese tourist on Thai Airways International (THAI) flight TG 8860 from Bangkok to Phitsanulok, the first commercial flight to leave Suvarnabhumi Airport.
Most passengers on the first commercial flights to and from Suvarnabhumi Airport were satisfied with service on Friday, despite a slight problem in the morning at the check-in counter, which caused a 30-minute delay.
Friday’s flights by THAI and Jetstar were part of the airport’s soft opening. Full international and domestic services are scheduled to begin September 28.
Though the flight was scheduled to depart at 6.30 AM, some passengers arrived at the terminal as early as 4.00 AM, fearing traffic congestion.
Thanakorn Wannakasem, a local businessman, said it only took him 20 minutes to travel from Minburi, a suburb of Bangkok, to the new airport, and that he was “impressed with the [airport’s] grandeur.”
THAI’s flight was delayed for half an hour because of an electrical blackout which caused the computer system to crash. Airline representatives were forced to issue boarding passes manually.
“The ability to resolve the problem should give passengers some assurances of the airport’s efficiency and guarantees that there are solutions for any future problems,” said Chotisak.
Chotisak Asapaviriya, Airports of Thailand Public Co., Ltd. president, attributed the computer problems to electricity being cut off at 3.00 AM, the cause of which is being investigated. (TNA)
