Suvarnabhumi » Residents around Suvarnabhumi airport accept deal on noise problem
Sunday, July 20th, 2008
Residents around Suvarnabhumi airport who have affected by noise pollution have reached a tentative deal with Airport of Thailand aviation authorities following talks on Tuesday.
Prasert Boonkaew, a key protester and representative of noise pollution victims, said after emerging from talks with Transport Minister Theera Haocharoen that he was satisfied with promises made by the minister to follow up on the progress of noise mitigation schemes and financial compensation owed to affected residents.
The residents also agreed with plans to set up a special committee to deal with this problem in particular.
Meanwhile, key leaders of the group warned residents not to release balloons in a bid to disrupt air traffic following the compromise deal. The threat was made by the noise pollution victims before an emergency meeting was held in the case that their demands were not met by aviation authorities.
Authorities are keeping a close eye on suspicious activities taking place around Suvarnabhumi airport which may be linked to those wishing to cause a public disturbance. (Bkk Post)
