Passengers on first commercial flights satisfied with Suvarnabhumi Airport
Sunday, September 17th, 2006“I am so excited to be a part of this historical flight,” said Miki Hiraoka, a Japanese tourist on Thai Airways International (THAI) flight TG 8860 from Bangkok to Phitsanulok, the first commercial flight to leave Suvarnabhumi Airport.
Most passengers on the first commercial flights to and from Suvarnabhumi Airport were satisfied with service on Friday, despite a slight problem in the morning at the check-in counter, which caused a 30-minute delay.
Friday’s flights by THAI and Jetstar were part of the airport’s soft opening. Full international and domestic services are scheduled to begin September 28.
Thai Air starting first flight from Suvarnabhumi Airport today
Friday, September 15th, 2006Thai Airways International (THAI) is ready to begin commercial operations at Suvarnabhumi Airport on this Friday (September 15, 2006).
“Everything is now ready to serve passengers,” said Mano Sapayanon, Director of THAI’s Ground Services Support Department.
The first commercial flight out of the new airport will be TG 8860, a Boeing 737-400, from Bangkok to Phitsanulok at 6.30 AM.
On Saturday, some of THAI’s flights between the capital and Chiangmai and Ubon Ratchathani will also begin operating at Suvarnabhumi. Passengers are advised to check their tickets in advance and plan accordingly.
JAL to add flight after Suvarnabhumi Airport opens
Friday, September 15th, 2006Japan Airlines (JAL) will add one more daily flight between Bangkok and Tokyo after Suvarnabhumi Airport opens on September 28.
“Many people want to use Thailand as a transit point to a third country, but Bangkok International Airport [Don Muang] is too crowded and the number of flights to Bangkok is limited,” said Seigi Iwasaki, JAL regional manager.
“The new airport will encourage more people to stop over at Bangkok.”
He also voiced confidence in the airport’s security system, but is slightly concerned about the first-class passenger lounge with decorating yet to be complete.
