PM eases Suvarnabhumi move timetable

Taksin ShinawatraTo cool the publicly-expressed displeasure of Thai Airways International (THAI) staff to moving the airline’s domestic operations to the new Suvarnabhumi international airport for a Sept 15 startup, Caretaker Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has moderated his earlier demand.

Domestic airlines wishing to operate from the airport on that day could do so on voluntary basis, but it will not be mandatory.

Speaking to journalists, Mr. Thaksin said he would meet with the Suvarnabhumi international airport committee Sept. 14 and would leave for Cuba to attend the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) meeting immediately after the airport meeting ends.

Suvarnabhumi Airport State Agencies affirmed system readiness

State agencies concerned in preparation for the opening of the Suvarnabhumi Airport for commercial services have affirmed that various operating and supporting systems under their supervision have already been put in place.

The Suvarnabhumi Airport Development Committee, chaired by Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, met on Friday with representatives of agencies concerned, including the Transport Ministry, Airports of Thailand Public Co., Ltd., Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI) and the Department of Aviation, to conclude the readiness of the opening of the airport for commercial services–initially for local flights of THAI on September 15.

THAI Air downgrades security vigilance for domestic & international flights

Thai Airways InternationalThai Airways International (THAI), the country’s national flag carrier, has reduced its tight security measures imposed on passengers of both domestic and international flights, effective from August 16.

Newly-appointed THAI President Flying Officer Apinan Sumanaseni told TNA on Wednesday that passengers of all domestic flights and those of internatinal flights are now allowed to bring their bags and carry-on luggage onto planes–based on the airline’s normal rules.
