Airport Link railway system from Bangkok’s inner city to Suvarnabhumi airport – News Update
Monday, March 5th, 2007The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) is in dire need of 18 billion baht as the payment is due in November for the Airport Link railway system that will connect the city to Suvarnabhumi airport.
Suthon Jetketkan, chief of the SRT’s electric railway office, said the SRT would have to pay 18 billion baht to the creditor bank that financed the 30-billion-baht Airport Link project. The instalment is due on Nov 5. The deadline is the completion date of the 990-day railway construction contract.
Nok Air will move all flights from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Don Muang Bangkok Airport on March 24
Sunday, March 4th, 2007Nok Air will shift all of its 58 daily flights from Suvarnabhumi Airport back to Don Muang (Former Bangkok International Airport) on March 24, 2007, one day ahead of the Don Muang airport‘s official reopening.
Nok Air, the Thai Airways International subsidiary, will provide eight check-in and three ticket-sales counters there at Don Muang. Two of the ticketing counters will be located on the departure level and the other one in the arrival hall.
Nok Air official informed yesterday that two flights from Hat Yai, two from Phuket, one from Nakhon Si Thammarat and one from Chiang Mai were scheduled to land at Don Muang on the night of March 24, 2007.
Security tightens at Suvarnabhumi Airport
Saturday, March 3rd, 2007Security measures at Bangkok Thailand’s Suvarnabhumi Airport were tightened Saturday, March 3, 2007, Makha Bucha Day, an important Buddhist religious occasion, following earlier warnings by security officials that an unprecedented bombing could take place in Thailand.
Suvarnabhumi Airport director Serirat Prasutanont said some airport exits were closed and added security personnel are patrolling the area. In addition, some passengers were being searched more thoroughly on a random basis before they entered the airport building.
Mr. Serirat said he was aware that the random searches might have caused inconveniences to passengers at the airport but he said such security measures were needed to prevent an untoward incident during the Makha Bucha Day, celebrated by Buddhists all over the country.
